First I want to say I had a great time in this class and I really enjoyed Glenn's teaching style he could make
almost anything interesting which I think is really cool. I am going to put some of my favorite art pieces in
this blog as I go.
At 1st I did not know if I would enjoy a art class but as it turns out I did which was a little bit of a
to me but in a good way because of this class I now see art in a totally different way then I did before.
I learn that some things that I never thought of as art is art like buildings and others things like craft
work and even rugs.
I also enjoyed the movies that we saw in class and how Glenn made them into the art subject we were
talking about that week very cool if you ask me.
I also loved when we walked the campus and we made up story about things and how they could be
pieces of art some student really came up with some great stuff that was very interesting and cool.
I also really enjoyed the project where we could not use electric devices for a night it was a great time
and I really got to catch up with my other have Deborah so for that I thank you Glenn.
And last but not least I had a great time at the Bowers Museum as part of my project it was the 1st
time that I had ever been to a art museum and I loved every minute of it so thank you Glenn for a very
interesting and cool trip into the art world!

Project #4 Me at the Bowers Museum
This was my first time at a Art Museum and I had a great time viewing all the great art the
Bowers Museum in Santa Ana had to offer. The most surprising thing to me was how big the Bowers
is it looks real small from the outside but it has so much to see.
This is me in front of the Museum. Once inside my first stop was Spirits and Head Hunters I
really enjoyed this section of the Museum it has some really cool pieces of art here are just a few
of my favorites from this section 1st off was the Grade statues.
Then there was the fire dance masks.
And then my favorite in this section a Storyboard.
And then the last piece I choose from this section a very cool Ceremonial feast bowl.
So that ends the spirits and headhunter section which I really enjoyed it had lots of cool pieces.
Next section was Ancient Arts of China yet another really cool section with cool pieces. First up was
Guanyin.
Next up in this section is my favorite it is a untitled watercolor on paper it is so beautiful.
Last but not least from this section was a beautiful carved chess set it was unreal how cool this piece is it is breath taking all the work that must have went into this is mind boggling.
So that ends this very interesting section of the Museum. Next I was off to the scrimshaw section
what it lacks in size it more then makes up for it with some really cool art work. 1st up is a pipe tamper.
Then there was this super cool ivory and silk ship.
So that was it for scrimshaw just outside this section was a piece that caught my eye it is a glass cast called A Great Wish I thought it was cool so I threw it in for fun.
Next up was another small section the Miao People of China I only took 1 photo inthis section to show their beautiful craft work it is a jacket, bracelet and necklace.
Then it was off to the Mary Muth wing of the museum it had some cool stuff in it here are my 2
favorites from this section.
I really liked both these pieces simple yet powerful.
Then I went upstairs to the oil painting there were so many beautiful painting up there to look at and here are a few of my favorites. 1st was La Buena Ventura by Charles Percy Austin 1927.
Then there was Edith Catlin Phelps and the piece called Wayside Madonna 1939.
I also liked Nude Figure by Firelight.
I also really enjoyed a piece called Flying Cloud here it is.
Then I came across this really big really cool painting by Joachim Ferninand Richardt 1885.
I ended my tour in the Ruth Segerstrom Gallery my favorite piece here was St. Anthony holding the baby Jesus here it is.
If you can't tell I had a great time at the Bowers Museum if you have not been there I am telling you it is a must see for a local museum it really has a lot to offer and I highly recommend that you make time for a visit you will love as I did.

Chapter 14
It is only fitting that this art class ends where art began in Ancient Mediterranean Worlds
I thought the art was cool in this chapter with my favorite piece being the burial mask of Tutankhamun
I would have compared it to something but it would have only paled in comparision to the masks
beauty so with that said I also really enjoyed the great Sphinx and the Pyramids at Giza both so
beautiful and a wonder to behold.
these are my two to compare each one a wonder each one amazingly beautiful true works of art.
although the art is this chapter is the oldest in the book it is still beautiful to behold and very- very
important even today and that is saying something.

Chapter 16
The Renaissance for me this was the best chapter as far as the art goes by a mile I mean
with great artists like Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello and Leonardo de Vinci to mention just a
few this chapter was full of breath taking life changing art every time I thought I found my favorite
work I would turn the page and fine another beautiful work of art what a great chapter a true joy.
With that said I choose 4 of my favorites to compare this time my 1st choice was Sandro
Botticelli's The Birth of Venus
For me this is one of the most beautiful paintings that I have ever seen a true work of art. It is not
just the beautiful subject of this painting that makes this one of my favorites it is a mix of subject
matter and breath taking color that makes this painting jump off the canvass at me. I compared it to
yet another great work of art Giovanni Bellicelli's Pieta this for me was also very breath taking work
of it also was very moving to me I could feel Mary's pain that she was feeling and if that is not
powerful I don't know what is. Next up were 2 of the big boys of the art world and 2 of their most
famous works 1st up is Michelangelo's David.
what can you say about one of the most famous works of art of all time it is wonderful to look at
one of my and many other people favorite works it has stood the test of time as does all great works.
I compared it to Donatello's St Mark.
It for me was equal to the power and beauty of the work David. Like I said at the start of this blog
this chapter is full of not only some of the most famous artists the world has ever known but some
of it's most talented and powerful artists.

Project # 3
Here I am working at the Christmas Parade at Long Beach and I thought to myself what could be
cooler then the Christmas Parade as a Art project I mean you have it all fun, family, music and rolling
works of art. It was a perfect night for a parade I think all who were there had a great time I myself had a
great night even though I was working security for the event. As you can see the pictures are not that great
my camera died right before the parade so I had to use my cell phone.
This one was a crowd favorite it not only was a joy to look at but it also had singing Elf's and who
doesn't love a singing elf so this float was one of my favorites.
more singing elf's how cool is this. here is me again watching the parade.
I had a lot more pictures the this but my stupid computer will not down load them. with that said I can tell
tell you this was a feel good event adults and children of all ages just watching a parade having a great time
what was different for me this time is I now saw the parade as a work of art not just a parade and it had all
types to you had art for visual and audio not just that either you had dance groups dancing you had veteran
marching and of course you had the big guy Santa for what would a Christmas Parade be without him.
Like I said in the beginning what could be more artsy then a parade I just wish more of my pictures
would have came out but things happen it was still a great time and I am glad that I could share a little of the
joy with you. Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year !

Pattern-Variation
Pattern and Variation are mostly found in music and dance but it is although found in art and as
we discovered in class on Tuesday it plays a major role in our day to day living. Glenn asked the class
to rate on a percentage of 80/20--60/40---50/50---40/60--20/80 Pattern to Variation 5 parts of our life
music was 1st and the most people picked 50/50 as their choice then it was tied for 80/20 and 20/80
go figure. next up was Cypress College classes and it had the same results as music which really
surprised me I thought a lot more would have chosen pattern over variation but I was wrong. friends
were up next with 50/50 once again beings the most picked of the choices but then it was equal for
the next 3 80/20--60/40---40/60 once again a surprise to me. next up was partner this is the one that I
Agreed with the class on with most picking 80/20 then a large number picking 60/40 I guess when it
comes to our partner a lot of stable pattern is good. Last but not least was our life itself with yet
another win for the 50/50 crowd I myself like my life a little more stable a surprised now and then is
great but I like to now where I am at in life and to many surprises can be bad. I thought this was a
cool and interesting thing to do I learned that most people at least in this class think a little differant
then I do and I am just fine with that.

Chapter 18
Arts of Islam and of Africa. for me this chapter was just so-so nothing really got me
excited about but I am sure lots of people love this style it is just not for me with that said I choose
two works of art to compare with each other the first one was Seated Couple.
I found this piece to be pretty cool and I found their facial expressions to be very interesting
they look like a very happy couple just watching a sunset or their children at play. I compared it to
Spirit-Spouse
which is the same style as Seated Couple but not as pleasing to me don't get me wrong I like this piece it is just missing something for me I guess it is the connection I felt with the Seated Couple
with their facial expression you could just feel the people that posed for them which I think is really cool. Like I said in the beginning of this, this was not one of favorite chapter but I was able to find two pieces I enjoyed.

What is beauty
I thought Tuesdays class was very interesting we had a debate on what is beauty and we
we even broke up into groups to come up with a way to describe beauty my group came up with beauty is that, that is pleasing to the senses which I thought was a great way to describe beauty.
we even spoke about Keates version of beauty, beauty is truth which I do not agree with sometimes the truth is ugly like Hamlet said one may wear a smile and yet be a villain.
We also had 3 painting to choose from to pick which one best fits the word beauty.
For me the choice was easy I choose Birth of Venus I found this painting to be truly breath taking for me this work of art is beauty at it's best. I enjoyed Olympia but I did not find it near as beautiful as Birth of Venus and last and certainly lest for me was Woman and a Bicycle I did not like this painting at all but to each his own. Like I said in the beginning of this blog I really enjoyed Tuesdays class.

Chapter 19
Arts of East Asia:India, China, and Japan I found the art in this chapter
to be very moving and beautiful if I had to choose my favorite it would be the art
from Japan there is just something about it that moves me so I choose 2 sets of
artists from this group to compare to each other. 1st off was Utamaro's
Hairdressing
I compared this to Sharaku's Otani Oniji
Although they have a lot in common I really loved the Hairdressing I
found this piece to be truly breath taking I loved the colors used and the look
of the women they seemed at peace and the Sharaku piece just felt a little
scary to me. I just really was into the hairdresser and not so much into the
other go figure they are alike in a lot of ways but to me they could not be more
different but that is the beauty of art.
The next piece was Hokusai's Ejira in Suruga Province
I compared it to Hiroshige's Riverside Bamboo Market
I really enjoyed both these pieces like the 1st two they had a lot
in common they are both beautiful works of art with wonderful blends of colors
you could also see movement in the paintings they both seems to be alive which I
found to be very cool. I liked the Riverside a little more than the other because
it had a little more brightness to the colors which I really love. but as I said
in the beginning I really loved both pieces. for me this was a great chapter.

4 presenters and more on our next 2 projects
We had 4 presenters this week and all of them did very well and were very
interesting. first off we had a very weird artist named Damien Hirst he did a lot
of work with dead animals which I was not crazy about but he also had a beautiful
diamond skull which I really enjoyed it sold for 50 million pounds the most ever
paid for a piece of art from a living artist.
Next up was Matisse one of the most famous artists in the world I
found I enjoyed his sculptures more then I did his painting but that is just me
for me Matisse is OK nothing to go crazy over but once again that is just my
opinion.
Then was one of my least favorite artists Picasso let me be clear I hate
cubism but I do enjoy his blue period work but since he is to blame for cubism
I can not be a Picasso fan!
Last up was Ryoji Ikeda who was into light and sound I am not a fan
of his stuff I don't even see how this is art with that said I still think the
presenter did a great job.
Then we talked about our choices for projects 3 & 4 I think I am going to
do a photo thing and also visit the Bower in Santa Ana as my project so that ends
anthoer cool week in Art 100 with Glenn.
